Adobe Flashpaper is Toast

September 5th, 2008 by Ben

What is Adobe Flash Paper you ask? Yeah, I don’t know exactly either but as of yesterday Adobe has decided to discontinue the product.

Adobe will continue to sell and support the current FlashPaper 2 version, but won’t be updating the technology to support Microsoft Windows Vista and IE7, which will make it virtually worthless.

If you’re dying to dig deeper, you can read more here.

I saw this coming after Matt posted about the CS 3.3 upgrade earlier this year.

Since you can embed SWFs in PDFs now, there’s no need for Flash Paper.

Flashpaper was Macromedia’s answer to Adobe Acrobat. It was sort of a simple version of Acrobat writer. I liked it better than Acrobat (simpler, faster, more stable), you could easily convert any printed document to an SWF or PDF.

Although I didnt’ use it much, I did enjoy the little bit that I was able to play with it. The idea of being able to embed a FlashPaper SWF in another Flash movie was nice for learning applications. You can’t do that with a PDF.
